Grand
Re-Opening |
| The
Boulder Judo Training Center had its Grand Re-Opening
on Saturday, August 18 and was excited to celebrate
its success. Food, fun, and entertainment was had by
all who attended. |
|
|
Our staff
would like to thank all who were able to make it for our event. We
would like to especially express our gratitude towards those
who participated in the demonstrations or brought a friend
to learn about our dojo and program. Throughout the day
there were student demonstrations, including an adult demonstration,
a black belt demonstration, and multiple door prizes were given
away to the crowd. Robin Young of “City Street
Bagels” catered the event with a variety of dishes from
sandwiches to pot-stickers, all of which were delicious. |
| Although
the entire day was filled with food, drinks, demonstrations,
and door prizes, one of the most exciting moments of the day
was when a Japanese style drum called a Taiko was bought out
onto the mat. Many of those who were able to attend our
Grand-Re Opening, did so with a general understanding of judo. However,
almost the entire crowd was naive to the great wonder and song
that accompanies the Taiko. Boulder Judo was lucky enough
to have two musicians able to perform for the crowd on the
large up-right drum. |
|
|
Our first
performer of the day was a friend of Sensei Noriko Narazaki
named Kenichi Nishiyama. Not only is he superior at the
instrument, but also a maker of Taiko drums , to include the
one that was showcased in the demonstration. |
| Terry
Fairbanks, our second demonstrator of the evening, is a member
of our very own dojo and currently participates in our adult
basic class. His performance of two drum selections
was a true treat for the Boulder Judo community. |
|
|
The
Taiko drum was originally used for war purposes. It
could be heard from great distances in battle and was also
used as a scare tactic towards the opposing side. Today
the drum can be seen in ensembles and provides musical enjoyment
for its listeners. You may have remembered its use
in the 1998 Olympics in Nagano, Japan. The Boulder
Judo Training Center was proud to have its presence at its
Grand Re-Opening. |
